Ranadene (Randi) K. Tapio, BS, CMRS
President/CEO
Ranadene founded Medical Billing Professionals after extensive work in management for the Long Term Care and Assisted Living markets. Randi’s vision of providing quality billing, reimbursement & consulting services ~ with that “personal touch” ~ is a cornerstone to what has made Medical Billing Professionals successful over the years. She holds the CMRS certification though AMBA, and was the first-ever Member of the Year for that organization. Randi is a Bachelor of Science graduate in Health Care Management/Geriatrics from North Dakota State University. She is a board member for Big Give MN, Minnesota Resource Center, and Rasmussen College’s HIT Program ~ where she was the keynote speaker at their recent graduation ceremony. Her education and experience attributes to her hands-on knowledge and in-depth understanding of the medical billing and financial solution industry. By providing such services as Practice Management, Revenue Cycle Management, Clinical Billing Audits, Consulting Services, Insurance A/R Assistance, Self-Pay Assistance and Project-Based Contracts to their clients, Randi has lead Medical Billing Professionals’s dedicated team in servicing their clients.



Melissa Scapanski
Director of Operations
Melissa experience & education compliments Randi’s very well with her own background, as she came to Medical Billing Professionals with vast experience in billing & reimbursement management. Prior to her position with Medical Billing Professionals, Melissa worked throughout the Healthcare Industry in several billing roles. Melissa has received degrees in Sales and Management, as well as Health Information Technology from St. Cloud Technical College, and is currently in the process of obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Southwest State University. Her thorough knowledge of electronic requirements, payor requirements, and the overall Billing Process are what makes her successful in her position at Medical Billing Professionals. She is in charge of all Medical Billing Professionals team member training, as well as internal Billing Policies & Procedures. Melissa assists Randi with Clinical Audits and special projects, and is also in charge of New Client Implementation, overseeing every detail of each new client to ensure a smooth transition.



Kim Terhaar, RHIT testing
Lead Coder
Kim is Medical Billing Professionals’s Lead Coder, overseeing all coding-related questions from other team members, as well as Medical Billing Professionals’s clients. As a graduate of Rasmussen’s HIT program, and through her previous clinical experience, Kim has a strong background in not only coding, but all HIT functions. Her coding and HIT knowledge continuously proves useful to Medical Billing Professionals’s clients, as she routinely answers coding questions, provides both CPT & ICD9 coding analysis, and performs random dictation audits for them. Kim’s thoroughness and attention to detail, as well as her cooperative and team-oriented work ethic are what make her excel in providing top-notch customer service to Medical Billing Professionals’s clients.



Karen Hennessy
Privacy & Security Compliance Consultant
Karen has more than 20 years of healthcare management experience, working in long-term care HIT and compliance related areas. She holds a Computer Operations degree from St. Cloud Technical College, and has extensive education in coding, HIPAA Privacy & Security. She is the head of her facilities’ HIT department, overseeing Medical Records, discharging of residents and assisting with admissions. Karen has extensive experience in HIT auditing, where she must continually audit charts for completion of orders and assist licensed nurses in completion of physician orders for all residents. She is currently the Privacy Officer for the LTC facility she works at, where she is in charge of educating staff on HIPAA & Compliance related issues. Karen is also the lead on Policy & Procedure development for HIPAA, Compliance & the HIT functions of her facility. Her strong belief in providing great customer service is evident as she works closely with residents and families, as well as fellow staff and the provider community. As Medical Billing Professionals’s Privacy & Security Compliance Consultant, Karen regularly updates Medical Billing Professionals’s team of any changes that effect both Medical Billing Professionals or our clients. Karen routinely assists Randi in providing on-site HIPAA Audits & Training for medical practices.



Billing & Accounts Receivables Team
With many of Medical Billing Professionals’s team members being Rasmussen College HIT graduates, their education and experience proves to be an asset to Medical Billing Professionals’s clients. Our billing team professionally and thoroughly performs the day-to-day functions of a billing office, such as: verification of benefits, prior-authorizations, charge capturing, charge entry, claims submission, working with clearinghouse issues, posting insurance & patient payments, working denials and underpaid claims, adjustments & appeals, insurance aging follow-up, sending patient statements, patient aging follow-up and self-pay soft-collections. Working as a team with each other, as well as with our clients, Medical Billing Professionals’s billers have proven themselves to be dedicated to both Medical Billing Professionals’s and our clients’ success. Continuing education and training is important for all members of Medical Billing Professionals's team and our team members regularly attend training programs and seminars. As a MN-based billing center, our team is well-versed on the ins-and-outs of our MN insurance carriers, and also have experience working with out-of-state plans.
